Abraham Lincoln's Early life
Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12th, 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky. His parents were both born in Virginia. When he was eight years old his father and himself moved from Kentucky to Indiana. Abraham said himself,"My father ... removed from Kentucky to ... Indiana, in my eighth year.... It was a wild region, with many bears and other wild animals still in the woods. There I grew up...." Abe's mother died when he was only ten years of age. His mother's last name before she was married was Hanks. Lincoln could read, write, and cipher at a young age. He was very intelligent. When he was a bit older he worked on the farm, split rails for fences, and had a store in New Salem, Illinois.
